If you’re new to the world of comic books, there’s one question that you’re probably asking above all the rest: What’s the difference between a comic book and a graphic novel?! Well, we here at Nerd Assembly wanted to provide you with a guideline to distinguish between these two terms. Don’t worry, it’s not as complicated as it seems!
Gotham is upon us! We are now two episodes into the first Batman-esque live action show since Adam West in the 60’s. And what has the reaction been so far? Hopeful.
So, what is making the Bat-fans so pleased with this new series? For one, it’s taking a lot of inspiration from the comics. The Gordon of this series has much in common with Year One’s interpretation, especially the naievety with how the justice system works in Gotham. The city is infested with criminals, the mob is just as slimy and destructive as the police force, and Gordon must adapt quickly if he’s going to survive.
For me, Phoenix Comicon is the best weekend of the year. As a local, I love seeing downtown, which is usually a ghost town, all of a sudden crawling with superheroes, Time Lords, Browncoats, steampunks, Storm Troopers, and furries. The guy offering rickshaw rides from the parking garage is dressed like Darth Vader, the convention center sound system is playing the Star Trek theme song, and everywhere there are nerds. Old nerds, young nerds, in costume and not, eyes shining, clutching their latest purchases, deep in discussion over all things geek. Ahhh….this must be what heaven looks like…
Welcome nerds and non-nerds alike, to The Nerd Assembly! Our writers are currently chained to their desks, denied food, water, and human contact, furiously typing insightful reviews, witty exposes, and heartfelt stories from the world of nerdom!
